Welcome to CB3 Sports Performance & Soccer Academy
CB3 is a multi-sport training center focusing on sports performance programs for every athlete and soccer skills coaching. Carlos Bocanegra, Captain of the 2010 USA World Cup Team, has brought his passion and love sport back to the I.E. Carlos grew up in Alta Loma and was a Parade All-American in soccer while at ALHS, as well as being a highly regarded recruit in football. He went on to have an All-American soccer career at UCLA and has spent over 10 years playing professionally in MLS, England, France, and Scotland. Carlos has brought together a team of top level professional coaches and trainers to help train you to improve your skills and athletic ability.
The mission of CB3 Sports Performance and Soccer Academy is to provide an elite level environment through coaching, fitness, and performance to empower the athlete to reach their ultimate potential. The building blocks to success at CB3 are built on the principles of Dedication, Determination, and Discipline.

Carlos Bocanegra
Director and Founder
Carlos started his career right here in the Inland Valley playing 3 sports at Alta Loma High School. His love for soccer eventually won out and went on to play college soccer at UCLA. After his All-American Career for the Bruins, Carlos was selected 4th overall in the MLS draft by the Chicago Fire. After earning MLS Rookie of the Year and 2 MLS Defender of the Year awards,
Carlos began his European playing career with Fulham FC, of the Prestigious English Premier League. After 5 years and over 100 appearances for the "Cottagers," Carlos made the move across the English Channel to start the next phase of his career with Stade Rennes in France's top flight, getting a chance to play in the Europa League. Carlos went on to play at Saint Etienne in France, a team known in France as "LES VERTS." In the summer of 2011, Carlos then headed Rangers FC in Scotland. Heading into the 2012/2013 season, Carlos now suits up for Racing Club de Santander in Spain.
US National Team
Through his playing career Carlos has reached a historic 100 "caps" or appearances for Team USA. A two time World Cup Veteran, 2006 Germany and 2010 South Africa, Carlos had the honor of Captaining the World Cup squad in 2010 for the first ever World Cup on African soil. The team finished top of their group for the first time in history ahead of the storied English team involving the likes of Rooney, Lampard, Cole, Gerrard to name a few.
In September 2007, Carlos became one of the few players in U.S. Soccer history to simultaneously captain both his club side, as well as the national team, which he did after captaining Fulham to a 3-3 draw against Tottenham on Sept. 1, and then took the armband for the USA in their game against Brazil on Sept. 9, 2007, in Chicago.
A powerful aerial presence, he is equally adept at both heading away attacks and finishing off set pieces on the opposite end of the field. << read less

Jason R. Mathews
General Manager / Director of Sports Performance
Jason R. (Jay) Mathews is a sports medicine professional with a wealth of athletic training and sports performance experience. He was the Head Athletic Trainer and Strength Coach for the Chicago Steel, of the US Hockey League. He then spent the 2002-2005 seasons as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Chicago Fire. During this time, the team won a U.S. Open Cup; a Supporter’s Shield Trophy
and was an MLS Cup Finalist. Mathews also earned the 2003 Athletic Trainer of the Year award for MLS. He then spent the 2007-2009 seasons with the Columbus Crew as the Head Athletic Trainer and he was the Head Strength and Fitness Coach in 2009. The Crew won back to back Supporter’s Shields in 2008 and 2009 and the 2008 MLS Cup. Mathews has also been the lead athletic trainer for several US Soccer U-18 and U-20 MNT camps and tournaments.
Mathews also holds certifications as a performance enhancement specialist (PES) and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and has provided a number of strength and fitness programming sessions to various athletes and groups. He has provided ACL injury prevention programs and provides functional movement testing for injury prevention identification. Additionally, Jay is a Nike SPARQ trainer, specializing in soccer fitness and performance. He also performs Nike SPARQ rating tests for all sports.
He earned his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from the California University of Pennsylvania in 2006 and his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1999. In 2010, Mathews furthered his education by earning a degree as a physical therapist assistant (PTA) from Kent State University in Ashtabula, OH. Jay was a founding member and the former President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Professional Soccer Athletic Trainers’ Society (PSATS).
A native of Maryland, Jay is a veteran of the US Army and has run several full and half marathons. He enjoys sports activities, reading true crime and history stories. He and his wife Trang have two children, Ethan and Emily. << read less

Jimmy Nordberg
Director of Soccer
Jimmy grew up playing club soccer in Alta Loma for the 1979 Arsenal. He graduated from Rancho Cucamonga High School in 1997 and played soccer at Azusa Pacific University from 1997-1998. Jimmy transferred to Cal State San Bernardino where he played from 1999-2001. During college, Jimmy earned all American honors as 1st team All Far West, All GSAC and CCAA all-conference
honors. After college he played from 2002-2003 for the Salt Lake City Blitzz.
Jimmy’s began coaching while still in college, where he coached at Arsenal FC from 1999-2002. He then returned from Salt Lake City to be the Director of Coaching for the Apple Valley Storm Soccer Club from 2003-2004. In 2004, Jimmy left Apple Valley Storm to become the Director of Coaching for the Arsenal FC Boy’s Program. During this time Jimmy also joined the Men’s staff at the University Riverside at California where he served as an assistant coach until 2008. He has been a Region IV Staff Coach since 2008. Jimmy has had extensive experience training many local club teams for over 10 years.
Jimmy holds an "A" License for coaching from the United States Soccer Federation. He has worked hand in hand with European Clubs over the years, learning what it takes to develop players in America. Jimmy has developed a progressive curriculum for our athletes constructed from his experience with coaching in America and abroad. << read less

Ben Davies
Staff Coach
Ben Davies grew up in Alta Loma and attended Alta Loma High School. He went on to graduate from UC Riverside with a Degree in Business Administration. He played 4 seasons on the Men’s Soccer team at UC Riverside and was a Scholar Athlete while earning All-League honors.
Ben has coached at the collegiate level for 5 seasons.
He has coached Division I, Division II, and currently coaches at Chaffey Community College. He also coaches High School and has coached club soccer for 8 years. He has coached for Arsenal FC and LAFC, and currently coaches with Legends FC.
Ben is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration. << read less

Kristi Devert-Juarez
Soccer & Performance Coach
Kristi brings a wealth of soccer and performance experience to CB3. She played collegiate Division 1 soccer at Santa Clara and Pepperdine University. She has professional playing experience and was a member of the US Under 16 and 20 National Teams as a youth and eventually as a member of the full US Women’s National Team. She played alongside Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Michelle Akers and many more in the US, Brazil, and Germany.
Kristi has a Kinesiology degree from Pepperdine and has been a soccer coach and performance coach for several years. Kristi was a collegiate soccer coach at Cal Poly Pomona as well as a Kinesiology instructor, which included teaching weight training, fitness, running , and soccer courses. Kristi has coached several club teams, as well as ODP district teams in Southern California and at multiple camps throughout Northern and Southern California. She has run her own sports performance business while continuing to be active and competing in ½ marathons and triathlons.

DJ Vigil
Performance Coach
DJ Vigil grew up in Lancaster, California. He attended Paraclete High School and played club soccer for ISC Strikers. DJ played one year at UC Irvine before transferring to California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) to play his remaining three seasons, in which he captained the side for the latter two. During his time at CSUSB, the program skyrocketed to an elite level and received many accolades both regionally and nationally. He went on to graduate from
CSUSB with a Degree in Kinesiology, with a concentration in Exercise Science. DJ is also a certified personal trainer through the National Certified Council for Personal Trainers (NCCPT).
DJ has coached at both the club and collegiate level. He also has served as a member of the 2012 LA Galaxy organization during their championship season. He has coached for Corinthians FC, Alliance FC, and currently coaches with Platinum FC.

Kim Tate
Sports Publicist
Kim Tate is a Sports Publicist with a specific focus on soccer. She strives to enhance the image and marketing strategies of players, teams and businesses. She joined CB3 in early 2013 and will focus on business and media relations, communications and marketing.
A Southern California native, she received her degree in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Athletic Training from Western Washington University in
Bellingham, WA. Throughout her professional career she has worked in residential real estate marketing and public relations for new construction high rises in the downtown core of Seattle, WA, before breaking out into sports marketing in 2010 when she joined the San Diego Sports Commission. After working to facilitate sporting events in San Diego such as Real Madrid/Chivas and Galaxy/Xolos, She formed her own business with a soccer specific focus in 2011.
She has a deep rooted passion for the game and how it ties into culture and religion, and has vocalized her inspiration coming from Latin and South America. She dreams of one day exploring Central American neighboring countries & writing about soccer as a cultural staple in Latin America. She currently writes for the website football.com covering all things US Soccer and the Women’s game in USA and Europe. She enjoys surfing every opportunity she gets and avidly follows the sport across all world competitions.
